From Aligned Living What You Believe byAngie Murenga on YouVersion
If I’m being honest, for a long time I thought what I needed was more discipline. More structure. More consistency. More trying harder. But the deeper I walked with God, and the more honest I became, I realized something: What I needed most was not discipline. What I needed was reconnection.
The Performance Trap
It’s easy to turn your walk with God into performance. You read your Bible, you pray, you show up, you serve, but deep down, it’s not coming from love or conviction. It’s coming from obligation. From pressure. From trying to earn acceptance.
And the truth is… God can see that. Not in a condemning way, but in a way that invites you deeper.
God Wants the Real You
At some point, I had to face this: I wasn’t struggling because I didn’t know what to do. I was struggling because I wasn’t being honest with God and with myself.
“O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.” — Psalm 139:1–4
And here’s the freeing truth: God is not asking you to perform. He is inviting you to be real.
“Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, and in the hidden part You will make me know wisdom.” — Psalm 51:6
He already knows what’s in your heart. There is no point pretending. There is no point filtering.
Reconnection Changes Everything
I’m learning to come to God without pressure. Not trying to sound spiritual or tick a box, but simply to be honest. To say: “God, this is where I’m at. This is what I’m struggling with. This is what I actually feel.”
When you shift from performance to relationship, everything changes. You stop striving to be loved — and you start living from the reality that you already are loved. That’s where healing begins. That’s where alignment begins.
Reflection
- Am I relating to God from love or from pressure?
- Do I feel like I have to perform to be accepted?
- When was the last time I was truly honest with God?
